Registry Cleaner - Your individual Computer Needs competent insurance and maintenance

windows 7 in VirtualBox on windows xp by nick see

Sometimes I feel sorry for kids today. Sure they've got phones the size of matchbooks, hyper-realistic video games and blankets with sleeves, but they're missing out on the fun of watching a good local TV horror host.

When I was a kid, a horror host named Sammy Terry was the star of Nightmare Theater on Channel 4 in Indianapolis. We lived 70 miles away from Indy and if I turned the TV antennae just so and all the atmospheric conditions were right, I could get a snowy image of Nightmare Theater and see Sammy every Friday night.

Each week, Sammy Terry would raise the lid of his coffin, hoist himself out and introduce that week's movie. He had a rubber spider on a string named George, who served as his sidekick and spoke in high-pitched gibberish that only Sammy could understand.

Sammy would interrupt the movie periodically for some truly awful puns and one of his soliloquies. He'd drone on and on in his drawn out "spooky" voice for what seemed like half an hour, talking about all manner of macabre topics. Due to the late hour I'd sometimes doze off during one of his interludes, and I'd wake up 20 minutes later and he'd still be talking!

Despite his penchant for rambling, I loved Sammy and his show and never missed it for years. Back in the pre-home video days, shows like Sammy's were the only place you could see old horror and sci-fi movies. If you wanted to see a particular movie, you just had to wait until it showed up on TV. There were no video stores and only 3 major networks. Sammy introduced me to Frankenstein and Godzilla and many others, and for that I am truly grateful to him. I wouldn't be a horror fan today if not for Nightmare Theater.

Even though I loved the films he aired, I rarely managed to see the entire movie. Most of the time I'd wake up on the couch at 3 a.m. with the TV blasting away a blank screen full of snow. It just came on too late for me to make it through all the way.

Sadly, most of Sammy's shows are lost forever. A few years ago I worked with a guy who interned at Channel 4 in the 1970s, and he said back then it was common practice to videotape a show, air it, and then tape the next week's show over the previous one. Apparently videotapes were prohibitively expensive back then, and in those pre-home video days, no one dreamed there'd ever be a market for old TV shows. It makes my head hurt just thinking about all the hours of Sammy's show (and dozens of other samples of TV history) that are gone forever.

By the way, I watched his show for many, many years before one day I finally got his name. Sometimes I can be a little slow. Sammy's retired now, but still occasionally appears at horror conventions around the Hoosier state.

I wish there were still horror hosts on TV, but in an age where you can own or dial up any movie you might ever want to see, there's probably not much point in it. Horror hosts have gone the way of buggy whips and powdered wigs.

Anyway, here's my version of Sammy Terry and his pal George the spider. I didn't notice it back when I was watching him on a snowy TV set, but in reality Sammy's yellow gloves appear to be everyday dishwashing gloves, with what look like "veins" drawn on with a marker (!). No idea why he's have veins on his gloves, but whatever.

Runtime blunder - in what way to Disable Them by Your Internet path-finder

Runtime by Sven Cipido

When my computer fails me, I'm not the type of person who will spend any money getting it fixed. Why? Because I like my money and I'm intelligent enough to fix most problems myself. I've been taught how to use the computer since I was in first grade. Over the years I have used many different models and running systems. I wouldn't call myself a computer whiz by any means but when it comes down to figuring out glitches and errors, I have to say I like the challenge. Although frustrating at times it can be exhilarating when you finally figure out what the problem is. Besides, why should I bring my computer to some geek in a 200 square foot store front, who will tell me they can fix it but it will take a week? For what I would be charged I could practically buy myself a new computer.

Fixing computer glitches is not for the inexperienced, easily discouraged, or amateur. Sometimes fixing errors can take several attempts, several hours, or several days. If you're lucky any problems will be easily solved within minutes, but often this is not the case. If you're feeling able and up to the challenge you can fix your computer too. In fact you'll probably be surprised by how simple many of the processes are.

The latest problem I experienced occurred with the Windows ® Installer Service. Somehow the service had become disabled or corrupted and I could no longer install software on my computer. I also believe it had something to do with Microsoft ® Word not being able to open or run. For weeks I used Wordpad to get my work done, but the quality of the program is nothing compared to what Word can do.

For hours, I skimmed through web pages searching for information and downloading updates for my computer. I had originally run into the problem with the Windows ® Installer Service when I was trying to install a wireless internet adapter. The installation of the software was interrupted with a pop up reading "During installation process another error occurred: Windows (R) Installer found. This is an older version of the Windows (R) Installer. Click OK to continue."

So, I click OK to exit the box and then I get "Error 1607: Unable to install InstallShield scripting runtime." By now, I've installed all the proper updates for Windows and Microsoft figuring it should take care of the problem. Wrong again! After retrying installation of the software and watching it fail once again I knew the problem was a bit deeper than I'd originally imagined.

So, how do you fix this kind of problem? First you want to find the Installer Folder in your computers files. On most home systems, the installer folder is hidden and you may have to work some magic before you can view or edit the contents. To find the installer folder:

1. Click Start > Run > and type explorer. Click ok or hit enter.

2. On the toolbar, select Tools > Folder Options.

3. Click the View or Advanced tab and select show hidden files and folders.

4. Select Apply at the bottom of the box and then click OK.

Now that the Installer Folder is visible you need to open it so you can view the contents. Follow these steps:

1. Click Start, select My Computer, and type C:WindowsInstaller in the address bar.

2. Right click on the installer folder and select properties.

3. Click the Security tab and make sure all users, the system, and Administrators have full control. If any box is checked deny uncheck it by clicking allow.

4. Click OK and exit.

Now you have assigned permission for access to the installer files which should solve the problem. Try reinstalling the software or program to see if the solution worked. If it didn't work you will know right away because you will run into the same errors. If installation fails you are most likely running a corrupted version of the Windows ® Installer Service. You will need to uninstall and reinstall the newest version of the Installer available at http://www.microsoft.com.

I thought my computer was running on regular Windows ® XP but when I ran into some issues I actually found out I was using Windows NT/4.0 with XP version 2002 installed on the machine. At first, I tried downloading the Windows ® Installer for XP but it wouldn't install or run, not even manually. I happened by chance to figure out it wasn't the right version. After several tries with the XP version of the Installer I decided to download the NT version. It worked like a charm!

Supposedly, Windows ® XP comes preinstalled with the correct Installer but XP does have glitches that haven't been dealt with. Usually it is just a few settings and controls that need to be tweaked in order to get your system running properly again. If that doesn't solve the problem you may have to reinstall certain programs and tools like the Installer Service.

If you have this same problem, and I'm positive I'm not the only one, try downloading the Windows NT/4.0 version of the Windows ® Installer. Copy and paste this into your address bar to access the download.

Follow download instructions and installation wizard. In case you have to manually begin the installation it is best to save the downloaded installer file to your desktop. Most downloads and installation wizards are on Auto Run Right so you won't have to do anything but click download and follow the instructions on your screen. If you need to manually install the Windows ® Installer, click on the icon of the Installer and select Open. The installer should begin within 5 seconds.

For me, that solved the problem and mysteriously Microsoft ® Word began working again too. In fact, all of the programs that were disabled for weeks are now working properly again. After downloading and installing the new version of the Installer Service your computer should be able to install any software, programs, or devices. If none of these options solves your problem you can search Microsoft.com for more information and specific resolutions.

repair Outlook 0x80042109 blunder together with Registry Cleaner

New outlook calendar view by Paul Hammond

Synchronizing in Outlook Express may seem like a daunting task, but it is not. Synching Outlook Express information lets a student do tasks such as managing the overall file size of Outlook Express folders or viewing postings in a customized way. First, let's cover what synchronization is and what is not.

What Is Synchronizing?

Synchronization involves updating current files with files contained elsewhere, such as on another server. Whatever your operating system, the process is nearly the same. Synchronizing allows OE users to maintain the same files or groups of files from the server host to the student's machine. This is a great feature for use in the home or at the office.

How Do I Get OE In Synch?

The process is nearly the same in all of the Windows operating environments. For instance, in Windows XP, select "Synchronize" from "Tools" in the IE Explorer bar. A window pops up with "Logon/Logoff," "On Idle," and "Scheduled" tabs. By selecting each tab, synchronization information can be updated for LAN (commonly used in the office) or dial-up connections (commonly used in the home).

Now whenever there are offline documents or information loaded, the computer will load the appropriate area with the most recent download of data for websites, files, etc. It is also a great way to download web pages for offline viewing or to make sure that you can view the most current posts in a newsgroup.

Synching In One Fell Swoop

One way is to simply select "Synchronize All" from the "Tools" menu. Selecting this option will synchronize all folder data with its counterpart contained on a server. This is handy when you do not want to fuss with checking the settings of each and every folder. Be forewarned though: this option can take a lot more time to complete as data is loaded from the server.

Synching Folders Individually

Synching individual folders increases a student's flexibility in accessing data. Simply right click on a designated folder and decide whether information should be synchronized every time it is added to the server, if headers only are needed, or if only the latest and greatest are worthy of matching what is on a server with the information contained on your own machine.

Choosing among these options depends upon the level of attention that is needed for the classroom, time available for synchronizing, and the necessity of having a full or partial posting available. Synching like this is also a great way to get caught up on the latest topics in other newsgroup areas.

Synching Through Tools

Synching via the "Accounts" method is also another way to control OE data. Simply select "Tools" and "Internet Accounts," and make sure the "Include this account" option is selected.

Synch Using The Maintenance Method

Imagine being in a class where postings appear all over the place. Or, perhaps, a student that normally works through lunch but must peruse the latest postings in the classroom to stay current or post responses. Using the "Settings" under "Options" allows control over the items viewed. Simply select the "Maintenance" tab. Now the actual days of data stored and the appearance can be customized.

Messages can be compacted into the background to eliminate wasted space. Additionally, students can specify when messages should automatically be compacted to remove wasted bytes of data. Messages over a certain number of days can be deleted from the user's local machine, as well as, the message bodies. Use this option carefully though; no one likes to delete a gargantuan file only to end up downloading it again because of its relevance later in the class. Caution: Purging deleted messages when leaving IMAP folders will delete the message from the permanent file located on the server as well as the file on your personal computer.

OK, let's review. Synching is a fabulous way to tame those nasty classroom postings or merely manage message-viewing volumes. Synching is a great way to organize or oust the irrelevant and can be the end of the road for messages. It's as easy as using features already contained in Outlook Express and complex enough to allow customization of displayed data whether on the server or a personal computer. Just remember, synching allows greater flexibility and is great for managing messages just the way you like to see them.

Although ATI Radeon HD 5970 graphics card with two graphics processing units (GPUs) onboard is the fastest graphics card available today, it does not feature full-speed Radeon HD 5870 chips, which is why such cards cannot offer maximum possible performance. Asustek Computer has decided to correct the situation and release its own limited edition board named Ares, which will be the first factory-overclocked Radeon HD 5970.

Asus Ares graphics card will feature two ATI Radeon HD 5870 graphics processors running at 850MHz with 256-bit bus and 2GB of GDDR5 memory running at 4800MHz, reports Overclockers.at web-site citing its own sources. It is logical to assume that the board will come equipped with proprietary print-circuit board, cooling system and, perhaps, some exclusive features. The new board will offer rather tangible performance improvement compared to the original ATI Radeon HD 5970 thanks to increased clock-speeds.

Apple has reacted rather than innovated where the iPad is concerned, taking what it’s previously presented to us in handy and incredibly useful portable form—the iPhone—and making it, well, far less portable and a lot less handy.

We’ve got an expensive giant iPhone that doesn’t make or receive calls offered up to us as “awesome”–one of Jobs’ most overused words—when, in fact, anybody with half an ounce of sense knows it isn’t at all awesome, fantastic or inspiring when we’ve already seen everything it can do, and like carrying all those functions around in our pockets.

The iPad is a solution looking for a problem, and a horse with wheels. With an iPhone and a MacBook Pro, I cannot see any reason why I would want to add an iPad to my collection of devices. I’ve also got an iMac and an Apple TV and all these devices together make for effortless networking, easy media playback on small or large screens, and all the usability anyone expects to get from desktop or mobile computers. If you don’t have these devices, or just one or two of them, then I’m sure it would make more sense to look at these as first choice additions than the iPad. They do more, and even the Apple TV does better.

My view might change with future versions of the iPad—it would be foolish of anyone to write it off forever—but I, along with many others, found myself disappointingly underwhelmed by yesterday’s launch. No iPhone 4.0 software with multitasking and app folders, no new rebuilt iTunes 10 putting an end to the software’s ridiculous resource-hogging on both PCs and Macs. Just a rehashed iPhone too big for my pocket and likely to drive me insane if I try to use the virtual keyboard for more than a paragraph or two at a time, owing to the fact that there is no tactile feedback whatsoever.

As a writer I need my clicking keys. I need them. I’m no gamer but I imagine they, too, need some kind of response from the hardware to their fingers. For some reason this lack of physicality doesn’t frustrate with a small unit like an iPhone or an iPod Touch. It would do so enormously with a larger device. I know it would.

I also think the product focus is fatally flawed. If e-books had been at the front of all considerations, and not watching movies and listening to music, we might have seen a genuine rival to the Amazon Kindle and other e-book readers. But even with the introduction of another proprietary format—Apple iBooks (regurgitating the classic laptop range name)–the iPad fails to convince readers that Apple has produced a device for electronic books. It has instead made a device for people who, if they dare to use it for reading e-books, care not about straining their eyes or ruining their posture. An opportunity to truly take on the Kindle has been squandered. But it isn’t too late—we’ll see what future versions bring.

Some Apple devotees are already saying “enjoy the technology” and praising the iPad but I’m not one of them. I like my technology to look great and work well, yes. That’s why I like Apple over boring, dull, hopeless Microsoft. The iPad, some say, does look great. I don’t agree. The design and functionality has been seen before, and is loved on the iPhone and iPod Touch. It simply hasn’t translated to a larger device very well. The iPad isn’t innovative. It’s a rehash, a bad cover version, the great Apple snake eating its own tail. It isn’t elegant. It’s clumsy. It isn’t cool. It is, instead a device destined to be popular with uber-geeks and those men who suffer from BCSD syndrome (Big Car, Small Dick). It also has the words MUG ME on the back, that only appear whenever the iPad is whipped out of a bag on a train or in any other public space. And wait for reports of snapping, smashing or overheating iPads to start appearing on the Web…

By the end of the year, unless a new improved version is released, the iPad will be seen as a failure ranking alongside the Cube and the Newton, on the basis of comparatively poor sales next to the rest of Apple’s hardware with, perhaps, the exception of the much-maligned (not without some justification) and slow-selling Apple TV. The public needed to be convinced by the iPad. It costs more and does less than some of Apple’s laptops, it costs about the same in its lowest-spec form as a PAYG iPhone and provides all the same functions except for the core essentials—calls and texts—but without the effortless portability. How can anyone other than the most feverish technology fan be convinced of a need for the iPad? It’s just not going to happen.

Yesterday’s product launch was boring. Apple had nothing genuinely new to offer us. It just went bigger with what it already does well, and bigger does not mean better if a lasting purpose has not been identified for the upscale job. The company went into overdrive trying to convince everyone the iPad was new, exciting and—let’s not forget–”awesome”–but it wasn’t. This was the (now) old dressed up as the new. That’s not to say Apple’s work on touchscreen technology and the iPhone OS hasn’t been amazing. It has, and continues to impress.

We needed something new and different and genuinely useful from the iPad and we didn’t get it. Apple does produce turkeys every once in a while, whatever the evangelists argue. The iPad is one such turkey. Unlike the unfortunate birds, the iPad won’t be immensely popular at Christmas. If anything its arrival makes the iPhone and iPod Touch even more appealing than before.

I love my iPhone. I could never love the first-generation iPad. I don’t have a use for it.

How to Remove Windows blunder Messages as well as Improve Windows opening

mac pro workstation by Chic Co

I experienced a major system crash with my computer and had to star anew recently. The holiday period also put a more or less unwanted break on our activities as a band.

We should resume rehearsals soon and start recording and uploading new music to our free MP3 archive. You'll get updated here each time we add something new, so keep checking this Blog.

I hope the few hundred people who already downloaded our music enjoyed it! There's no way we could have sold that many CDs in such a short time so I think our decision to go free online was a good one. Thanks to everyone! Knowing most people taking the time to download also probably had the right mind frame to appreciate us, your comments are welcomed!

No seasons wishes or happy this/that...this stuff gets overrated!

Since my computer crash, I have been changing the way I work on the computer. Luckily I had just make some of my first backups on CD / DVD ever. I mean that is the first time I really, truly backed up my computer in over 20 years of working with them. I got out a 4GB USB storage thingy I just bought at CVS (Could have bought it cheaper elsewhere). I was able to copy all of the books I am working on, photos and my genealogy and I still have over 3 GB left.

I am always amazed at how fast technology is moving. My first computer was a commodore 64, followed by an IBM Xt with 300 baud modem. For those not so challenged, You can read faster than a 300 baud modem can print to screen. I was thrilled when I got a 2400 baud modem and thought never in my lifetime when I saw 19200 baud modems. That was back in the day when you were somebody if you had your own BBS (Bulletin Board System). Of course mine was on Genealogy and for a brief moment in time I was sort of a big wig in my area because of it. Of course nowadays there are thousands of websites not to mention audio and video instantly available to view.

I digress. I have all of my information back up now and a thumb drive or whatever they call it in my pants pocket should I ever need it at work, library or someone’s home. Technology is fantastic – I only wish that I could live another 100 years.

How can I watch live TV through my computer? That’s easy, you need to visit one of the best sites that offer online TV for pc and grab unique software that brings to you over 3000 TV channels from over 78 countries. The software is called satellite direct TV and had been developed over 3 years. To watch live TV on a computer you need to have a stable internet service and a good enough computer. Learn more on how to watch live TV through your computer from this article.

This software has a very easy to use interface that also comes with an intelligent program that saves the last watched channel and retrieves it the next time you open the software. The software arranges all the channels according to the regions they are aired from and then these are further arranged according to the categories that they feature like music channels, news channels, sports TV etc. All you have to do is decide which country you want to watch TV from and then select categories and the actual channel and you are off watching.

The easy download of this software makes it one of the lightest and clean programs for pc TV. Some of the other softwares found online are made such that the quality is low although they may sometimes have more than 3000 channels. So it’s a matter of choosing between quantity and quality. Satellite direct TV software has one of the best if not the absolute best quality of image and sound.
